6 Ways to Balance Your Body's pH

There are many trending diets, habits, and exercises that come in waves across the internet. Some are merely fads while others hold merit; but what it all boils down to, is the attempt to keep your body as healthy as possible from the inside out. One of the best ways to do this is to optimize your body's internal functionality by maintaining its prime pH level. When you indulge in highly acidic foods and drinks, it spikes your pH level into acidic territory which creates an environment in your body that can invite long-term illness, inflammation, and can negatively affect cellular function. Our goal should be to keep our body in the alkaline state, boosting immunity, energy, internal balance, and overall wellness! So, what are the steps we should take toward alkalizing our body so we can feel our best and ward off disease? Check out this list of food, drink, and lifestyle habits that contribute to a healthy, balanced body.

1. Greens. Making dark, leafy greens a staple in your diet will dramatically impact the alkalinity in your body. Kale, spinach, collards, and broccoli are all excellent examples of cruciferous vegetables that will not only help balance your pH levels, but in doing so, can reduce your risk of various cancers. Popeye had it right all along!
PRO TIP: If you're not a veggie eater, Environmental Detox features DIM, an ingredient derived from cruciferous vegetables and delivers the same benefits!

2. Nix Processed Foods. Don't let those packaged, processed, and frozen meals fool you. Though they claim to be healthy, the preservatives and processing of these foods can be harmful to your body. When in doubt, fresh is best. A good rule-of-thumb is to try to shop on the outer parameter of your grocery store. This is where most of the fresh items are, whereas the canned goods, frozen meals, and processed treats tend to tempt us in the aisles in the middle.

3. Lots of Water. You would be amazed at how much water intake really is enough for your body! It is essential to your overall health to consume enough water, as it promotes proper cell function, balances the body's natural pH level, assists the organs for optimal functionality, and promotes healthy digestion! Hydration is key.

4. Keep it Moving! Get your body in action to help break up acidic toxins and waste and move them along through your body. If you are tilting toward the acid side of the spectrum internally, go for a quick swim, play a round of tennis, or bust out the yoga mat to promote a healthy flow and rebalance your pH levels to a healthier state.

5. Citrus. Believe it or not, even though citrus fruits are acidic in nature, once metabolized and processed into the body, they actually encourage alkalinity within! Grapefruits, lemons, pineapples, are all excellent alkaline-producing foods! Try swapping out your morning coffee for a warm cup of water with lemon to kick-start your day and balance your gut's pH first thing in the morning.

6. Wellness Supplements. The Osmosis Wellness Line contains many all-natural products and supplements that aid in the optimal function of cells in your body, ultimately balancing your pH to it's ideal state for your unique body. Complete is an all-natural digestive enzyme that helps break down food for proper digestion, as well as increases nutrient absorption of those alkaline-producing foods to help you feel more energized and healthy!

The bottom line is to strive for a healthy balance internally through what you are putting inside your body and choosing healthy lifestyle habits. Take your health into your own hands!

Internal Wellness: Fall into Health - Time to Detox

It's FALL!!! This is, by far, Osmosis' favorite season. It's a time for shedding negativity from our lives and starting fresh. The cool air provides crisp, rejuvenating energy, and our coffee shops are filled with the smell of pumpkin (basic yes, but can you blame us)? Fall is the perfect season to take a look at your health and wellness and start making changes to prepare your body and spirit for the stressful holiday season that's nipping at the heals of golden, falling leaves. Our spring detox is a great place to start, but we want to add a few new steps to help your body be the best it can be!

Detox your Skin:

Let's clear your skin of summer damage and gunk! Allow yourself 20 minutes of me-time to do the following:

1. Boil 2 cups of water and steep 4 mint tea leaves until water is medium dark.
2. Place water in a heat safe bowl.
3. Grab a hand towel, drape it over your head and lean into the steam from the bowl to get the infused steam onto your skin.  Inhale deeply and steam your skin for 5 minutes.
4. Slather a healthy amount of Pore Minimizing Clay Mask from forehead to collar bone. Let it sit for 15 minutes. (Things you can do while waiting: Pour yourself one glass of red wine, have a dance party, scare the neighbors, meditate... you choose.)
5. Rinse mask completely.
6. Spot treat any sun damage or dark spots with Enlighten.
7. Apply two pumps of Replenish all over face, neck, and décolleté.
8. Spritz skin with Clear + and massage skin, starting from your forehead down to your neck in soft sweeping strokes.
9. Sip your wine and continue to dance!

Detox your Body:

Now it's time to clear your body of toxins and sugar from all those margaritas and copious amounts of baseball food. Here is what you will need:

Elevate
DIM
Complete
Restore
Sugar Detox Harmonized Water
Commitment
Natural deodorant (without aluminum and parabens)
Notebook to journal how you feel
Organic veggies
Organic fruits (load up on lemons)
Lean, organic meats and wild caught fish
Brown Rice
Gluten Free Oatmeal

Let's get to detoxing!

AM Plan:

1. Rise and stretch with our Morning Yoga Workout.
2. Drink a big glass of room temp. water with one whole lemon squeezed into it.
3. Fix yourself a hearty bowl of oatmeal with fresh, organic raspberries, honey, and a tablespoon of pea protein powder.
4. Take 1 DIM, 1 Complete and 1 Elevate.
5. Pump 5 pumps of Sugar Detox Harmonized Water into your mouth.
6. Take 1 pump of Restore and let it sit under your tongue for 10 minutes. Spit and discard when done.
6. Start your day!

Afternoon:

1. Be sure to be drinking half your body weight in ounces in water throughout the day.
2. Take 5 more pumps of Sugar Detox.
3. Eat a big salad with wild caught fish. Make sure your salad is colorful with your favorite types of veggies, and take it easy on the dressing... we love a drizzle of balsamic vinegar or olive oil with lemon and a pinch of pink Himalayan Sea Salt.
4. Take 1 Complete and 1 Elevate.
5. Take a quick break to high-five yourself for being awesome.

PM:

1. Drink a warm cup of water with lemon, or tea with lemon.
2. Meditate in silence for 15 minutes. Focus on the goals you achieved that day and breathe into your success.
2. Eat a healthy meal of steamed veggies, brown rice and free range, organic chicken.
3. Take 1 Complete and 1 DIM.
4. Look at yourself in the mirror for one minute straight (it's harder than it sounds), admire your uniqueness and take pride in yourself. You just finished your first day of treating your body like a temple... and you made it through!

Repeat these steps for 30 days, limit alcohol intake (a glass of red wine twice a week is fine), cut out sugar and be sure to get at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise in each day (that includes weekends)! Get creative with your meals, look at using unique spices and healthy fats to add flavor (olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil).

With our wellness supplements and a clean, sugar-free diet your organs will strip themselves of toxins, leaving you feeling refreshed, clean, and light. Your skin will be clear and glowing and you will have an abundance of mental clarity just as we head into the hectic holiday season. You will be saying "Ommmm" through the rest of the year!

Wellness: National Yoga Month

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that yoga is one of the most popular AND beneficial workouts out there. Not only does it give your muscles, joints, and tendons and bones some love, it calms the brain and nerves while deepening your inner connection with yourself. Yoga has long been used to treat multiple physical and mental disruptions as well as to prep the body for stillness, utilized during mantra and meditation. Simple poses, held in increments provides your brain with focus, your body with strength, and your life with balance. In honor of National Yoga Month, we have put together the perfect set of poses to wake you up in the morning so you can start each day with a clear mind and full spirit.

Osmosis' National Yoga Month Stretch for Health Routine:

Upon waking, sit upright on your legs. Take 5 deep breaths and set your intentions for the day in your mind.

From your seat, move forward into child's pose. This will wake up your organs, ease lower back pain and help align your spine. Stay in this pose for 2 minutes and breathe deeply.

From Child's Pose, slowly push your body up onto all fours and breathe into Cat/Cow Pose. Cat/Cow warms up your muscles, joints, and spine all while deeply stretching out the back.  Repeat the movement up to 10 times.

From Cat/Cow move into Downward Dog. Downward Dog stretches your legs, arms, neck, and back (full body, if you will). Breathe through the pose 5 times.

From Downward Dog, move into Warrior II pose. Breathe through this 8 times, then switch to the other side.

Move into standing position and get ready for Triangle Pose. Breathe through the pose 5 times, then repeat on the other side.

Take 20 seconds per leg and hold Tree Pose. Close your eyes and focus on the intentions you set for the day.

From Tree Pose, go to knee position, moving into Camel Pose. Don't fret if this pose is too deep for you, simply modify it by sticking out your chest and abs until you feel a comfortable, deep stretch. Breathe through this pose 10 times, really focus on making room for your lungs and other organs to function, imaging the air going through your body and your body being grateful and fulfilled.

Take time this September to give yoga a chance. These simple poses are beneficial and quick. Yoga is the perfect workout to fit into a busy lifestyle. You can do these poses for as long or as little as you like, just make sure you DO them!

Once you have completed these moves, give your body and brain an extra boost of goodness with Inner Harmony Harmonized Water, then hit the ground running! We promise you will feel like a superhuman if you complete this routine every morning, look out batman er... superwoman, we're coming for you!

Osmosis at Home: Balance your Chakra's with Color

Obtaining spiritual balance can feel like a full time job. It takes commitment and hard work to tap into yourself and provide your spirit with what it needs to flourish. Our Chakras, which represents different parts of our being, can be quite powerful when all are aligned. That is why we have designed some tips on gaining balance through color to keep your spirit happy.

Root Chakra (1): Your root chakra is located near your pelvic floor. This chakra connects you to the earth providing grounded roots in your life. To feel more grounded, place pops of red and onyx around your living room and outdoor patio. Place stones like Onyx, Ruby, and Red Jasper around things from the earth like houseplants, flowers, or outdoor rugs.

Sacral Chakra (2): Located near your reproductive organs, the Sacral Chakra connects us to our compassion, sexuality, and joy. To bring balance to this Chakra, place a vase, decorative bowl, or gem stone with orange hues in your bedroom or bathroom. Tigers eye and Fire Opal are great stones to utilize for balance of your second chakra.

Solar Plexus Chakra (3): This chakra is your energy source. Associated with the fire element, your solar plexus provides confidence, cheery disposition, and self love. Decorate your space with plenty of yellow, topaz, and light orange. Citrine, Topaz, and Moonstone are great gems to add to your bathroom so they are the first thing you see upon waking up to start your day.

Heart Chakra: (4): Our heart chakra is just as it sounds, connecting us to our outside relationships and love. A weak heart chakra can contribute to rocky relationships fueled by jealousy and anger. To gain balance and clarity to your heart chakra, surround yourself with soft pinks and greens. Rose Quartz is the perfect stone to carry with you at all times to keep your heart in line.

Throat Chakra (5): Our throat chakra give us our voice. This is our communication center which feeds off of shades of blue for balance and clarity. Blue Lace Agate and Turquoise are great colors to keep in your office or near your work space for a better sense of vocal balance.

Third Eye Chakra (6): This is our center, representing our intuition, senses, and vision of the world. A balanced third eye can provide deep insight into our lives and the lives of others. Surround yourself with shades of indigo and stones of Lapis Lazuli all around your home to feel connected to your intuition and spirit.

Crown Chakra (7): located at the base of your head, our crown chakra provides mental clarity and balance of the nerves. Amethyst is the perfect gem to sleep next to in order to quiet the mind and sooth your nervous system. Sleeping on light purple sheets wouldn't hurt either.

Take advantage of these colors to better balance your spirit. Check out our makeup to match some of these chakra shades with your looks! Now go find some gems and stones, take a deep breath, and release yourself to your chakra needs.

Wellness Wednesday: Hormone Health

Oh Hormones... we HAVE to live with them, they are apart of us and our inner "mechanics." But let's get real, once they start doing their own thing and become imbalanced... life can get a little hairy... or lack of hair...or make us feel simply wacky. As nice as it would be able to control our hormones with positive thinking and brain power alone, we just can't. Diet, hydration, sleep and supplements are the top 4 natural remedies to aid hormonal balance.

We know when we are out of whack; lack of sleep, change in appetite, hair loss, hair growth in areas where hair simply shouldn't grow, mood shifts, changes in body temperature... the list goes on and on and none of the symptoms are fun. Hormonal imbalance is the pits. Luckily there are small changes you can make to your daily routine to help shift your hormones into balance.

1. Elevate your day - Using our Elevate supplement will help your adrenal glands function properly. Your adrenal glands are your bodies hormone "hub" when they are working right, your body is balanced.
2. Hormone Health Harmonized Water: Our Harmonized Water helps with Thyroid deficiencies and also aids in balancing symptoms of menopause, "man-o-pause," hair loss, libido and fertility.
3. Scheduled Meals - You MUST eat breakfast, everyday. Having a high protein breakfast helps your adrenal glands trigger the production of cortisol which aids in healthy stress reaction and helps your metabolism function properly.  Lunch and Dinner should be heavier on the complex carbs, which helps shut cortisol down for the night, so you can get a good nights rest.
4. Hydration - Why is it so hard to drink water? We know, you get busy and forget to hydrate. Boy is that detrimental! You should be drinking half your body weight in ounces of water per day. If this step is new for you, get ready to be running to the bathroom often. But don't worry, your body will adjust and the results of balance will be worth the continuous trips to the loo.

There you have it. Four easy steps to give your hormones a much needed wellness check. Wellness starts and ends with YOU. Our hormonal health is without question, an important pillar on our wellness journey. When your hormones are imbalanced, your body can wreak havoc on its self, causing a number of symptoms that can make you feel extremely out of place. Luckily you now have four easy shifts to make on your path to hormonal wellness. We hope you utilize our supplements and tips this year as you continue your wellness journey!
