Osmosis Vacay Packing List: Beach Bag Essentials

It’s here!! Summer has finally arrived and it’s time for some fun in the sun. Now that your beach vacay is officially on the calendar, it’s time to start thinking about what to bring. If you’re like us, procrastinating packing for the trip is inevitable - we always seem to find ourselves with an empty suitcase hours before it's time to hit the road. So, to help you, and ourselves, in preparing for that long-awaited tropical paradise, we have come up with a list of Beach Bag Essentials to make your late night “night-before-the-trip” packing sesh a little bit easier and a lot more effective to ensure you have a sun-safe trip!

1. The obvious: Sunscreen. It’s number one on the packing list because it is the number one most important item to bring with you since you will be spending extended periods of time in the sun. Protect Ultra-Sheer SPF 30 Sunscreen is a lightweight, non-greasy, hydrating sun protector – so luxurious you’ll WANT to keep reapplying because of the way it makes your skin feel! Pair it with UV Neutralizer Harmonized Water as some added defense against the suns harmful rays.

2. The “no-makeup” makeup. You’re at the beach. You want to sport the natural look while soaking up those rays and making a splash! CC Cream offers color correcting qualities to even out your skin tone and provide light coverage of blemishes, so you can rock that “no makeup” look while still feeling confident and beautiful!

3. Post-sun hero. Repair is one of our favorite masks for intensive healing and calming irritated or inflamed skin. While we hope the “S” word never happens, Repair is a must-have in your beach bag to soothe and heal that sunburn just in case you’re just having too much fun to reapply (tisk tisk)! While it is a miracle-worker on sunburns, Repair can also be great for general post-sun exposure, even if you aren’t red or burnt, as an extra boost for your skin to repair over-dried barriers after extended time in the sun.

4. Your favorite sunnies. Believe it or not, your eyes can be damaged by the sun just as much as your skin. A good pair of sunglasses is extremely important to protect your eyes from harsh UV rays, and is a must-have in your beach bag!

5. Big floppy hat. Not only do big floppy hats make a fashion statement at the beach or pool, they also provide a great deal of protection from the sun for your scalp, face, and neck when you’re taking a break out of the water!

There you have it! You're complete list of must-have's to toss in your tote and hit the sands! To explore more Osmosis skincare or makeup products to take with you, check out our website here.

Skincare: Melanoma Awareness Month

It's May! Which means a few things... flowers, warm weather, and plenty of sunshine! We all know that getting a dose of sun can be healthy for us, especially since Americans tend to be deficient in vitamin D, BUT, we also know that there is a fine balance between a healthy amount of sunshine and a dangerous amount. In honor of National Melanoma Awareness Month, we want to show you how to protect yourself and get your daily dose of vitamin D without risking damage to your skin and health.

Protection: Protecting your skin daily should be your top priority 24/7/365! We love using Protect SPF 30 to ensure our skin is protected from both UVA and UVB rays. Our mineral based, chemical-free SPF is gentle on the skin but tough on harmful rays. We also LOVE that it smells quite delicious, and treats the skin to some great hydration and antioxidants. Use Protect daily and always remember to re-apply if you plan on being exposed to the sun for a long period of time.

Accessorize: Yep, you can still be fashionable and protect your body while enjoying the warm weather. Be sure to invest in a good pair of sunglasses and a great hat to protect your scalp! If you are enjoying some pool or beach time, be sure to have a light tunic or kimono to provide an extra layer of protection while you are out of the water.

Post Sun Treatment: Keep your skin soothed and happy with a little post sun cocktail... for the skin that is. Combine a few pumps of Replenish and a few pumps of Rescue with some Aloe Vera for a wonderful antioxidant-heavy, hydrating treatment.

The Vitamin D Myth: We have all heard it before, expose yourself unprotected to the sun for twenty minutes a day to absorb Vitamin D, right?!? Studies are now showing that may not be completely true. Yes, while a little sun basking does provide you with a small amount of your daily D intake, you still need more for your body. We suggest taking a vitamin D supplement and keeping your diet rich in wild caught fish (like salmon or tuna). Most nutritionists would suggest obtaining your daily intake through food, but for those picky eaters out there, a supplement will work just fine.

The truth is, protection of your skin outweighs the benefits of 20 unprotected minutes in the sun, so stay sun-safe this summer with our holistic skincare solutions!

Vitamin A: How to Use it in the Summer Time

It's no secret that dermatologists and estheticians everywhere agree, that Vitamin A (aka Retinol) is the best tool to combat aging, acne, skin discoloration, sun damage and a whole bag of skin issues. BUT, what you may not know (and definitely should know) is that Vitamin A makes the skin more sensitive to sun exposure. We get asked often if Osmosis Skincare lovers should stop using their Vitamin A serum in the summer. The answer is a simple, resounding... NO! Vitamin A is such a rock star when it comes to treating the skin, you want to make sure to utilize it even when the sun is out in full force. Here are some helpful tips to utilizing Vitamin A in the Summer!

* Let your Vitamin A Serum work for you while you sleep. Apply your Vitamin A at night, skipping the morning application. Instead try StemFactor or Catalyst AC-11!
SPF, SPF, SPF, SPF, SPF! Did you get that? Sun protection is vital EVERYDAY, especially in the summer time, and even more important when you are utilizing Vitamin A. Every morning, slather yourself with Protect and take 5 pumps of UV Neutralizer Harmonized Water. Because Vitamin A makes your skin more sensitive as it gently exfoliates dead skin, your skin is left with a mighty fresh layer that needs to be protected, even after you wash your Vitamin A off in the morning.

* Choose the right Vitamin A Serum for your face. Check out this post to learn which one is right for you! With 5 different Vitamin A's to choose from, there is no excuse not to take advantage of the one that fits best for you. Choose from: Calm, Clarify, Correct, Renew and Relieve.

* Exfoliate once a week to help your Vitamin A provide you with stronger results. We LOVE Polish, it's gentle, effective, and smells down-right delicious!

* Make sure to utilize your Vitamin A all over! Many people forget their lips, ears, neck and chest. All of these areas need some extra love. Just don't forget to protect those same places during the day.

Using your Vitamin A in the summer (and year round for that matter), is vital to keeping your skin healthy. It only takes a few small changes to make sure the summer heat and sun don't compromise your results. So get on the Vitamin A train and enjoy the ride to glowing, beautiful skin!
