3 Tips to Saving Tired Holiday Skin

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season impacts more than just our stress level. The skin can really suffer from the combination of irregular diets, cold and dry weather, and lack of sleep (holiday parties anyone?). Revive tired skin this season with these three fail-proof products that will bring the radiance back to your complexion.

Cranberry Enzyme Mask

All too often, the automatic reaction to dry, flaky skin is over-exfoliation. Not only can this further dry out the skin, it actually can cause even more long-term damage to the epidermis when practiced in excess. Polish harnesses the power of cranberry enzymes to gently eat away the dead skin cells and reveal a bright, youthful complexion.

Remedy Healing Balm

Infuse nutrients and moisture back into the skin with this rich, healing balm. Apply a thin layer underneath your makeup to enhance brilliance and tone or indulge the skin and the senses when used as a sleep mask and let the product do the work while you catch your Zs! Wake up to radiance and say goodbye to dull stressed skin no matter how many gatherings are on your agenda.

Refresh PM

An eye serum by design, but capable of so much more, Refresh PM is intensely-moisturizing proven to restore hydration and barrier health to the thin, delicate skin of both the eyes and lips. Formulated with liquid crystals, it delivers shine and nutrients to the epidermis resulting in a healthy glow and firmed fine lines.

Winter Body Treatment

Cracked heels, cut hands, bumpy dry winter skin... Do those sound like any winter body problems you've experienced? Us too. That is why we have put together a winter body treatment for you to treat yourself to weekly to keep your body moisturized, toned, and flake free.

Dry Brushing - A few times a week, use a dry brush to help gently exfoliate your skin. This technique also helps your lymphatic system push out toxins, and gets your circulation moving. We suggest dry brushing in the morning, before you shower. Starting at your feet, use very gentle strokes with a soft bristle body brush (be sure not to use a hard bristle brush, soft brushes keep the integrity of your skin intact). Follow your strokes up one leg at a time, towards your heart. Once both legs have been brushed, move onto your arms. Hold your arm above your head and follow with soft strokes down towards your heart. Gently brush your abdomen (up towards your heart) and your bum.

Water Oiling - Keep your favorite body oil (we love using Immerse and Coconut Oil) in the shower. Once you are done showering, apply your body oil to your skin while it is still wet. This helps the oil absorb and gives instant hydration to your skin after a hot shower.

Moisturize - While your oil is still damp, apply a body butter or lotion all over. Then walk around (or dance) in your birthday suit while it soaks in (maybe even take a look at your self in the mirror and say thank you to your incredible body)!

Do your oiling and moisturizing every day. Then once a week, follow these steps:

Multi Mask your Bod! Use our favorite enzyme mask Polish to treat your heels, hands, elbows, and knees. Apply to damp skin and massage with a few sprays of Clear or Clear Plus+. While that settles, apply Hydralift Firming Gel Mask to your upper arms and thighs for a toning, hydrating treatment your body will thank you for. Leave both on for 5 minutes, then shower off and follow with oiling and moisturizing.

Keep your Mineral Hydration Mist handy. We love using this mist to finish our makeup application, but it also makes for a great hydrator for the body. Just a few sprays during the day will keep your skin feeling hydrated.

Don't forget to use Immerse for your hair, nails, and heels. This Emu Oil-based hydration booster is multi-tasking wonder!

8 Ways to Winterize your Beauty Routine

"Winter is coming!" Actually, winter is already here (but we'll use a GOT reference every chance we get). With the changing of the seasons, it is important to adjust your beauty, wellness, and skincare routine. Colder weather brings on a flurry of skincare concerns that are easy to combat with the right tools. Winter is also be a great time to pay mind to your emotional and mental health too, gloomy days and longer nights can make for a total a change in mood and behavior. Lucky for you, we've got you covered with 8 easy swaps to add into your daily routine to boost your winter health inside and out.

1. Add moisture! Immerse is one of our favorite products to use in conjunction with Quench or Quench Plus. Adding just half a pump of Immerse to your daily/nightly moisturizer will give your skin a huge boost of hydration and moisture. The emu oil is your winter skin superhero, which also makes for a great hair treatment as well.

2. Gently exfoliate. Adding in a treatment that safely sweeps away dead skin build up will keep your winter skin from flaking, and keep it in tip-top health. We love using our Polish mask once a week to gently exfoliate with the use of enzymes. We don't suggest using a harsh scrub as it can compromise the surface and health of the skin, that's why we love this cranberry enzyme mask which gives us a fresh, hydrated complexion.

3. Slather with Refresh PM. This thick, balmy eye treatment will keep your sensitive eye area flake free. It also makes for an incredible lip and cuticle treatment. Load your lips, cuticles, and gently pat a bit around your eye orbital for a deep, moisturizing treatment.

4. Keep your spirit up! Seasonal depression tends to rear it's ugly head this time of year and we want you to know that you are not alone. We are so grateful that we have Body Talk Harmonized Water and Elevate to keep your mental health in shape for the long winter months. Body Talk neutralizes emotional effects on the body and Elevate will pump you full of B Vitamins giving you higher energy (without harmful stimulants), which will help keep your brain happy and healthy.

5. Up your water intake. Yep, it's that easy to calm inflammation inside and out. Increasing your water intake during these long, cold months will help keep your body functioning. It is important to flush out those toxins we tend to take in during the holiday season so our skin can stay healthy. Water is your perfect detoxing supplement!

6. Switch foundations. During the hot months, powder foundations tend to be the bee's knees. But once winter hits, it is smart to try switching your formula. Our CC Cream delivers coverage, protection, and more moisture than its powder sister, making it the perfect swap for winter.

7. Get your Clear on! Many of us at Osmosis have multiple bottles of Clear or Clear Plus in multiple places. From our purse or car to our desk drawer, we love using this refreshing spray to revive tired mid-day skin. Clear and Clear Plus will give your complexion a nice re-up of hydration. Use it during the day to help your skin combat dryness.

8. Use a sleep pack. For those with extra dry, extra sensitive skin, use our Hydralift Mask as a sleep pack. Pat a small amount all over your face, then hit the pillow. Once a week give your skin a treat with this overnight, hydration hack.

Winter Skin Tips

by Ami Shvartzman, Director of Education

Winter Skin Tips
As I sit staring at the snow-flocked trees and watching my breath as it fogs up the window, I’ve had a realization. Like it or not winter has arrived! With colder temps and dryer days winter weather can wreak havoc on your skin. Here are some tips to keep your skin winter ready:

Bump up the moisture to aid that barrier

Winter weather mixed with indoor heating solutions can cause dry and harsh conditions both in the air and on your skin. Our skin’s barrier is the first line of defense when it comes to bacteria, UV radiation, environmental toxins, dry climate, etc. It is important to support the outer layer of our skin by not stripping it with harsh cleansers and exfoliants. Osmosis’ Cleansers use non-drying, gentle surfactants (from Kiwi- Kumquat and Coconut) to assist in keeping our skin’s barrier intact. Osmosis Moisturizers utilize ingredients that mimic our skin’s natural moisture. You may also find, however, that this time of year it is often beneficial to “bump up your moisturizer” and use something slightly richer than you may be currently using. Simple changes such as adding a drop of our emu oil based Immerse may be the key to a perfect winter complexion.

Ultra gentle exfoliation

For skin that is dry, dull and dehydrated, using a mild enzyme exfoliant 2-3 times per week can help to smooth out the upper epidermal layers without causing inflammation. Try our Polish cranberry enzyme mask which gently lifts dead skin cells and superficial debris. This mask also contains a small amount of L-Lactic acid, a hydrating AHA and the powerhouse antioxidant Co-Q10 and leaves skin protected and radiant.

Indulge with a mask

Shorter days and longer nights call for more time at home, and more time for you to pamper yourself! Now is the time to introduce a mask into your regimen. A mask with moisturizing and hydrating properties can really benefit skin that has been affected by winter’s fury. Try our new Tropical Mango Barrier Repair Mask which is designed to restore, nourish and hydrate the skin. This delicious smelling mask uses various fruit and nut butters to soothe dehydrated and irritated skins.

Keep quick fix products on hand

Osmosis makes it easy for you to keep dry skin issues at bay! Just pop one of our Age Defying Treatment Concealers in your purse for easy access to Argan Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Coconut Oil as well as Vitamin E and Shea Butter located in our fantastic moisture stick. Keeping Refresh PM on hand, an intensely moisturizing eye serum, makes for a great lip treatment as well! And don’t leave home without a bottle of our Mineral Hydration Mist, a great way to revive and rehydrate your skin throughout the day. This refreshing mist contains ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, a water-binder which is hydrating without being heavy, and Saccharide Isomerate which is a powerful humectant making this product a winner for dry skin.

Stay warm and remember to take care of your skin this winter!

Defrost Your Winter Skin

Great tips to remember as winter starts coming to a close.

HYDRATION

Have you noticed your foundation doesn't seem to cover as well?  This is especially the case if you use mineral makeup in the winter which adheres best when the skin is hydrated. If you are not achieving coverage with the minerals during application, most likely your skin needs more moisture. For a quick fix, use the Mineral Hydration Mist for an extra boost of hydration in seconds.

CIRCULATION

The cold can decrease circulation in the skin and therefore can cause dry, sallow skin. Certain ingredients like "liposomal niacinamide" found in all of our Vitamin A Serums are designed to enhance the skin's circulation which restores its nutrition levels. This will not only improve your overall health, but enhance that natural luminosity for fresh, lively skin.

DON’T EXFOLIATE!

Forcing exfoliation removes your lipid barrier which makes your skin even drier than it may normally be, especially in the cold winter. Make sure to use products that will encourage the skin to naturally turnover its cells to keep your skin radiant.

DRY PATCHES & GUT HEALTH

During the winter time we often notice more "dry patches" on our body. What shows up on your skin can be due to a connection in the health of your gut. Make sure you’re taking care of your digestion by taking internal supplements such as Harmonized H20, that will tend to your sensitive gut and treat your skin from the inside out.

WINTER SUN PROTECTION

Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean the sun can’t get to you. Make sure that you’re still wearing sun protection when you go outside especially here in Colorado and most appropriately when skiing as the elevation increases your exposure level. So keep your skin protected by using holistic internal sun protection (UV Neutralizer H20), great all natural SPFs (Shade) and/or a full coverage mineral makeup powder.

WARM UP YOUR FACE

With snowfall and icy days we tend to cover up more and let our skin turn dull and even pale. Stay vibrant during the winter and war m up your skin by dusting a beautiful bronzer to give you a natural sun kissed glow.
