Osmosis Skincare: Chirally Correct - What Does it Mean and Why is it Important?

9/29/2016 Osmosis Skincare 0 Comments

You've probably heard the term Chirally Correct thrown around in the skincare industry and chances are, you aren't quite sure what that actually means. Chiral (Ki-Rul) represents a biological molecule that is present in all human and animal molecules. Derived from the greek work Kheir, meaning hand, these molecules are sequenced as mirror images. Hold up your hands, palms up, and place them next to each other. They are a mirror image, BUT if you try to superimpose them onto each other (by placing on hand, on top of the other with palms up), they don't match up do they? So, using this analogy of hands and mirror images, what makes a product Chirally correct is the ability to utilize the "mirror" side of the molecule. Again, what does this mean?

A non-chiral product could be damaging or inefficient for your skincare needs. When you use a product with Chirally Correct ingredients, you are matching your skin with it's right or left hand mirror, if you will. Chiral products will work with your skin by utilizing it's mirror image, which means your skin benefits from all of the positive effects and misses out on any negative effects as they have been removed. Using a non Chirally Correct product could, in turn, cause irritation. With a non Chiral product you will still get the benefits of the ingredient, BUT because it still has the non chiral molecule, it could also cause a negative side effect.

We are proud to utilize Chirally Correct ingredients in all of our skincare products. This helps drive permanent results in treating all of your skincare concerns. It's quite kismet actually, that your skin and your skincare are able to work together in harmony, consider Osmosis your skin's Chirally Correct SOULMATE!

Thank you to all of our loyal customers for using and LOVING the benefits of Chirally Correct Skincare!

Internal Wellness: Fall into Health - Time to Detox

9/26/2016 Osmosis Skincare 1 Comments

It's FALL!!! This is, by far, Osmosis' favorite season. It's a time for shedding negativity from our lives and starting fresh. The cool air provides crisp, rejuvenating energy, and our coffee shops are filled with the smell of pumpkin (basic yes, but can you blame us)? Fall is the perfect season to take a look at your health and wellness and start making changes to prepare your body and spirit for the stressful holiday season that's nipping at the heals of golden, falling leaves. Our spring detox is a great place to start, but we want to add a few new steps to help your body be the best it can be!

Detox your Skin:

Let's clear your skin of summer damage and gunk! Allow yourself 20 minutes of me-time to do the following:

1. Boil 2 cups of water and steep 4 mint tea leaves until water is medium dark.
2. Place water in a heat safe bowl.
3. Grab a hand towel, drape it over your head and lean into the steam from the bowl to get the infused steam onto your skin.  Inhale deeply and steam your skin for 5 minutes.
4. Slather a healthy amount of Pore Minimizing Clay Mask from forehead to collar bone. Let it sit for 15 minutes. (Things you can do while waiting: Pour yourself one glass of red wine, have a dance party, scare the neighbors, meditate... you choose.)
5. Rinse mask completely.
6. Spot treat any sun damage or dark spots with Enlighten.
7. Apply two pumps of Replenish all over face, neck, and décolleté.
8. Spritz skin with Clear + and massage skin, starting from your forehead down to your neck in soft sweeping strokes.
9. Sip your wine and continue to dance!

Detox your Body:

Now it's time to clear your body of toxins and sugar from all those margaritas and copious amounts of baseball food. Here is what you will need:

Elevate
DIM
Complete
Restore
Sugar Detox Harmonized Water
Commitment
Natural deodorant (without aluminum and parabens)
Notebook to journal how you feel
Organic veggies
Organic fruits (load up on lemons)
Lean, organic meats and wild caught fish
Brown Rice
Gluten Free Oatmeal

Let's get to detoxing!

AM Plan:

1. Rise and stretch with our Morning Yoga Workout.
2. Drink a big glass of room temp. water with one whole lemon squeezed into it.
3. Fix yourself a hearty bowl of oatmeal with fresh, organic raspberries, honey, and a tablespoon of pea protein powder.
4. Take 1 DIM, 1 Complete and 1 Elevate.
5. Pump 5 pumps of Sugar Detox Harmonized Water into your mouth.
6. Take 1 pump of Restore and let it sit under your tongue for 10 minutes. Spit and discard when done.
6. Start your day!

Afternoon:

1. Be sure to be drinking half your body weight in ounces in water throughout the day.
2. Take 5 more pumps of Sugar Detox.
3. Eat a big salad with wild caught fish. Make sure your salad is colorful with your favorite types of veggies, and take it easy on the dressing... we love a drizzle of balsamic vinegar or olive oil with lemon and a pinch of pink Himalayan Sea Salt.
4. Take 1 Complete and 1 Elevate.
5. Take a quick break to high-five yourself for being awesome.

PM:

1. Drink a warm cup of water with lemon, or tea with lemon.
2. Meditate in silence for 15 minutes. Focus on the goals you achieved that day and breathe into your success.
2. Eat a healthy meal of steamed veggies, brown rice and free range, organic chicken.
3. Take 1 Complete and 1 DIM.
4. Look at yourself in the mirror for one minute straight (it's harder than it sounds), admire your uniqueness and take pride in yourself. You just finished your first day of treating your body like a temple... and you made it through!

Repeat these steps for 30 days, limit alcohol intake (a glass of red wine twice a week is fine), cut out sugar and be sure to get at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise in each day (that includes weekends)! Get creative with your meals, look at using unique spices and healthy fats to add flavor (olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil).

With our wellness supplements and a clean, sugar-free diet your organs will strip themselves of toxins, leaving you feeling refreshed, clean, and light. Your skin will be clear and glowing and you will have an abundance of mental clarity just as we head into the hectic holiday season. You will be saying "Ommmm" through the rest of the year!

9/19/2016 Osmosis Skincare 0 Comments

As you know, September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Raising awareness better prepares us to be informed on our preventative options and helps us open up a dialogue about our own reproductive health. In honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, we created a bold, blue, teal look to help represent #30daysofteal and help empower women to make positive choices to better their health and well-being. This one is for all the brave women out there fighting this illness. We are with you!

Step 1: Apply the base shade from Misty Blue Eye Shadow Trio with the Oval Shadow Brush.

Step 2: Using your Contour Shadow Brush, apply the mid-tone from Misty Blue Eye Shadow Trio to your crease.

Step 3: Line your upper lash line with Navy Eye Pencil, use your Eye Liner Brow Brush to wing it out.

Step 4: Using your Smudge Brush and Azure Water Color, add that teal pop to your liner by lightly pressing the color into your upper lash line.

Step 5: Using a clean Smudge Brush and Topaz Water Color, line your lower lash line. Having two different shades on top and bottom adds a ton of dimension, and makes your eye color bolder!

Step 6: Add Volume Mascara, Brow Gel and BAM! Get out there and be a bold, fierce, fighter!

Women's Health: An Interview With Dr. Ben Johnson

9/14/2016 Osmosis Skincare 0 Comments

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of awareness, we sat down with Dr. Ben to talk about tips to aid in prevention and awareness. According to cancer.org about 22,280 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer and about 14,240 women will die from ovarian cancer. These statistics have an important fear factor to be aware of, ovarian cancer is not easy to detect, and unfortunately proper testing with a successful diagnosis is rare. Before we hear from Dr. Ben, let's talk about some facts.

Risk:

The general population sits at a 0.2% risk of getting ovarian cancer before the age of 50 and 0.7% risk from the ages of 50 - 70 years. While ovarian cancer has a low risk analysis, prevention and proper care of your reproductive organs is vital for a happy, long life.

If you have received genetic testing and have been diagnosed with a positive BRCA 1 or 2 mutation, your risk is higher and your prevention action plan needs to take precedent.

Symptoms:

Ovarian cancer symptoms are difficult to detect as they often mimc daily bodily issues that we tend to overlook. If you are experiencing extreme bloating that remains consistent throughout your menstrual cycle and beyond and is accompanied by pelvic and abdominal pain, please consider making an appointment with your OB/GYN. Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, as well as urgent urinary symptoms are also symptoms of ovarian cancer.

Let's now hear from Dr. Ben on prevention and how to holistically create hormonal balance to better your reproductive health.

What screenings should women start in their 20’s to protect themselves from reproductive issues?

Routine PAP smears are recommended.

Why is hormonal balance so important for women to achieve?

Women are exposed to roughly 300,000 toxins everyday that resemble estrogen. These toxins distort their natural estrogen levels and create side effects including menstrual irregularity, early menopause, fibrocystic disease, cancer, PCOS, and endometriosis. Osmosis DIM binds these estrogen toxins to help regulate and detox the body. Hormonal balance affects all aspects of health including immune and mental health. It is a major contributor to overall well-being, youthfulness, and longevity.

What can we do to help spread awareness to ovarian cancer, a rare and difficult to detect cancer?

In order to help spread awareness, we can learn the potential causes of this condition that may include environmental toxins, viruses and/or emotional triggers. Cancer usually involves all three components so it is vital that we each take care of ourselves, AND help take care of others' wellness.

What questions should we ask our doctors at our annual screenings to ensure we are taking care of our reproductive health?

Be sure to track any symptoms of hormonal imbalance. Some of those symptoms are;  cystic acne, hair growth in areas where hair shouldn't be, or hair loss. We should look for early signs of hormonal imbalance and address these symptoms with our doctors for their records and explore treating them holistically.

Can you tell us about the importance of internal and spiritual wellness for a better, healthier body and mind?

The majority of cancers likely have an emotional component like fear, anger, or sadness that may encourage its creation within the body. Learning forgiveness and accepting life each day as it unfolds can lessen the chance for cancer in the future. Faith in a higher presence has proven an effective tool for some seeking spontaneous remissions. Faith alone cannot create this reality, one must also heal the emotional pain and follow their intuition when it comes to the right holistic and medical remedies for them. Coupling both holistic and western medicine can have great benefits. My suggestions to boost the effects of DIM and help restore hormonal balance are, Hormone Health, Inner Harmony, and Environmental Protection Harmonized Waters.

This month be sure to show your body that you love it, schedule a check up if you're due, do a mental symptom check list, and get involved to help spread awareness to this rare, difficult-to-detect cancer. For more information, and to learn about ways you can help,  go here.

Wellness: National Yoga Month

9/08/2016 Osmosis Skincare 0 Comments

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that yoga is one of the most popular AND beneficial workouts out there. Not only does it give your muscles, joints, and tendons and bones some love, it calms the brain and nerves while deepening your inner connection with yourself. Yoga has long been used to treat multiple physical and mental disruptions as well as to prep the body for stillness, utilized during mantra and meditation. Simple poses, held in increments provides your brain with focus, your body with strength, and your life with balance. In honor of National Yoga Month, we have put together the perfect set of poses to wake you up in the morning so you can start each day with a clear mind and full spirit.

Osmosis' National Yoga Month Stretch for Health Routine:

Upon waking, sit upright on your legs. Take 5 deep breaths and set your intentions for the day in your mind.

From your seat, move forward into child's pose. This will wake up your organs, ease lower back pain and help align your spine. Stay in this pose for 2 minutes and breathe deeply.

From Child's Pose, slowly push your body up onto all fours and breathe into Cat/Cow Pose. Cat/Cow warms up your muscles, joints, and spine all while deeply stretching out the back.  Repeat the movement up to 10 times.

From Cat/Cow move into Downward Dog. Downward Dog stretches your legs, arms, neck, and back (full body, if you will). Breathe through the pose 5 times.

From Downward Dog, move into Warrior II pose. Breathe through this 8 times, then switch to the other side.

Move into standing position and get ready for Triangle Pose. Breathe through the pose 5 times, then repeat on the other side.

Take 20 seconds per leg and hold Tree Pose. Close your eyes and focus on the intentions you set for the day.

From Tree Pose, go to knee position, moving into Camel Pose. Don't fret if this pose is too deep for you, simply modify it by sticking out your chest and abs until you feel a comfortable, deep stretch. Breathe through this pose 10 times, really focus on making room for your lungs and other organs to function, imaging the air going through your body and your body being grateful and fulfilled.

Take time this September to give yoga a chance. These simple poses are beneficial and quick. Yoga is the perfect workout to fit into a busy lifestyle. You can do these poses for as long or as little as you like, just make sure you DO them!

Once you have completed these moves, give your body and brain an extra boost of goodness with Inner Harmony Harmonized Water, then hit the ground running! We promise you will feel like a superhuman if you complete this routine every morning, look out batman er... superwoman, we're coming for you!
