Osmosis ABC's: Butyrospermum Parkii

What in the world is Butyrospermum Parkii? You probably see it in many of your skin care, makeup, and hair care products. Many botanical ingredients have super fancy science names that can lead us astray or make us fear what we are putting on our skin. Fear not, Butyrospermum Parkii is none other than Shea Butter! This ingredient is native to the African Shea Tree. The nut produced by this tree offers an insanely healing salve that works wonders on many skin conditions. Let's find out why this ingredient is so good for you!

WOW! This puppy does a lot. We love breaking down ingredients (even the ones with long confusing names) to make sure we utilize the most natural, skin mimicking properties to better heal, and maintain the health of your skin. Shea Butter just happens to be one of those ingredients! Wondering what products have this wizard of an ingredient?

Shade - Protect and nourish you skin from the sun's daily rays!

**For the Professional: Shea Butter is utilized in Facial Infusion, Cucumber Mint Balancing Mask and Tropical Mango Barrier Recovery Mask**

Now you know what Butyrospermum Parkii is! Get on over to your Osmosis retailer and get your hands on these products! Just Shea YES (pun completely intended)!

Give your Skin Some Love - Valentine's Day Facial

Ahhhhhh Valentine's Day. The day of love is approaching and candy hearts are available at every turn! This month is a great reminder to tell your loved ones how much you care about them. It's also an important time to show yourself some love! We have created a special Love Facial to get your skin in shape for Cupid's Arrow. Take some time out for yourself, and pamper the skin you're in!

What you'll need: Melt-Away Gelee, Purify Cleanser, Polish, StemFactor, Clear and Clear Plus, Refresh PM, Repair, Replenish, and Quench.

Here are your steps for a little skincare love:

1. Remove makeup and impurities with Melt-Away Gelee. Massage a dime size amount into skin, remove with a warm towel.
2. Cleanse with Purify. Massage two pumps into wet skin, rinse with warm water.
3. Wet a wash cloth with hot water and set aside. Mix a quarter size amount of Polish with one pump of Clear and massage onto skin. Sit back and place the hot wash cloth on your face for 3-5 minutes. Then remove.
4. Massage skin with one pump Stemfactor and one pump Clear Plus and leave it on the skin.
5. Eat some candy hearts.
6. Starting at your forehead and moving down towards your neck, in quick, feathery strokes, massage a quarter size amount of Repair Healing Mask and one pump Refresh PM into the skin. Wrap a hot wash cloth around your face and relax for 5-10 minutes before removing.
7. Hydrate and treat your skin with Replenish. Massage one pump onto face and neck until fully absorbed.
8. Mist with Clear Plus, and massage skin once more.
9.  Moisturize with one pump of Quench.
10. Eat more candy hearts... and maybe take a skip of red wine?
11. Look in the mirror and see clear, glowing, healthy skin.

This facial is meant to hydrate dry, dull winter skin. This is the perfect facial to preform the night before your big date for the day of love. Don't forget to swipe our Body Shimmer Powder onto your arms, decollete, and legs (if you're showing them)!

Be kind to yourself this Valentine's Day, show your skin and your spirit some love!

The Power of Touch :: Healing with Quench

Jamie Palmer, BSN, RN
Director of Education
We often forget the powerful healing properties of touch.  Ongoing health issues and treatments can be invasive and uncomfortable for patients.  Help them experience a different kind of treatment by providing a relaxing medi-facial.

The nerves in our skin are a direct link to our brain where hormones are released like adrenaline or serotonin relative to a strong or soft touch.  A gentle facial massage can lower cortisol which causes stress, increase the "feel good" hormone dopamine, boost immunity and increase circulation.

Long term effects of treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation leave the skin dry and often sensitive.  Special care needs to be taken when performing a facial for these individuals.  The Healing Touch Medi-Facial will help you to safely provide a facial treatment while incorporating the benefits of facial massage.  At the end of the treatment, be sure to moisturize their skin to help combat the dicomforts and appearance of dry skin.  The perfect choice for hydration is Quench.

Quench is a moisturizing formula that feels light on the skin while providing healing benefits.  It uses moisturizing factors and lipids naturally found in the skin that hydrate, protect and activate skin repair.  By restoring the epidermal barrier, Quench makes the skin healthier and better able to protect against UV radiation.  The organic shea butter used in Quench is a combination of essential fatty acids that nourish and moisturize while providing anti-inflammatory benefits.  Squalane, a lipid with antibacterial properties, also helps to fortify the lipid barrier.  Quench is not only an amazing moisturizer that uses line and lemon essential oils for a nice citrus scent but has anti-aging benefits with the peptide Chronoline.

Help provide a different form of treatment for your clients that have been undergoing care for cancer or other serious health issues.  You'll allow them some much needed "me" time, a break away from stress, nourishment of their skin and a "feel good" chemical release from their brain.  As a skin care professional, ou can do more than help a patient with their skin ... you can help provide the healing power of touch.

For details on our Healing Touch Medi-Facial, visit our website.  The written protocol can be found in our Resource Center under protocols and there is a webinar available in our archive demonstrating the Healing Touch Medi-Facial.

Fun Fact:  Did you know that some countries have used shea butter (found in Quench) to help aid in pain management?

"I love Quench and Shelter and recommend them to all my clients.  Quench really helps bring hydration and comfort back into dry, compromised skin and Shelter is a "must have" for every client.  I work with cancer patients and love having products that can be used safely on all types of compromised skin conditions."
