Rub-a-Dub-Dub

How often do you clean your makeup brushes? We don't mean wiping them on a paper towel every now and again, we mean deep clean. Deep cleaning your brushes is an important part of your makeup ritual. Having clean brushes not only keeps your makeup clean and your skin clearer, it keeps your brushes living longer. It's best to clean your brushes at night so they have a full night to dry before use. Let's grab a bottle of wine and get to cleaning! (you can at least make it fun right?!?)

Step 1. Gather all of your brushes and head to the sink.
Step 2. Pour yourself a glass of wine and put on some Michael Jackson.
Step 3. Grab some coconut oil* and your Deep Clean Cleanser.
Step 4. Take a sip of wine.
Step 5. Grab your first brush and dip it into the water stream. (keep water temperature warm-hot).
Make sure to only wet the hair. DO NOT get water above the feral (the metal part of the brush).
Step 6. Pump a little cleanser into the palm of your hand.
Step 7. Swirl the wet brush into the cleanser, use your fingers to really work the product into the brush to remove makeup, dirt, and oil.
Step 7. Rinse your brush thoroughly.
Step 8. Squeeze any excess water from your brush and lay flat to dry on a towel. Make sure the brush head is slightly hanging over the edge of your counter for proper air circulation. DO NOT let your brushes dry sitting up in a cup. Water will seep down into the feral and loosen the glue that holds your brush together making your brushes life span a lot shorter!
Step 9. Take another sip of wine.
Step 10. Repeat steps until all of your brushes are clean.
Step 11. Take another sip of wine and do the moon walk.

*Use coconut oil on synthetic brushes to deep clean oils or liquid makeup products. Once you have massaged the oil into your brush, clean using the steps above.

Heart Harmony

2/15/2016 Osmosis Skincare 0 Comments

How often do you think about your heart? It is, after all, the source that keeps you going. February is Heart Health Month and we want to make sure that you give your heart the love it deserves and needs to keep on pumping. A major part of your wellness is eating right and exercising. Getting at least 30 minutes of cardio a day is very important to keep your heart healthy. What else can you do to ensure your ticker keeps on ticking? Inner Harmony and Elevate, that's what! Supplementing your heart with balance is the trifecta to your healthy diet and movement. Both of these supplements aid in your heart's health and harmony. Let's find out why.

Inner Harmony Harmonized Water - Inner Harmony not only aids in balancing skin and overall state of mind, it also aids in organ protection. By helping your organs detox daily, you provide each organ (like your heart) with the power of protection. Removing toxins from the body daily helps keep your body alkaline, which in turn helps ease inflammation. Inner Harmony is an important part of keeping your body in line so your heart can keep you going. Take it twice daily for optimum results.

Elevate - Take your heart health to the next level. Elevate aids in providing sustained, caffeine-free energy to keep your body moving. CoQ10 keeps your heart safe from free radicals and gives your heart a healthy dose of antioxidants, while Ganoderma (often referred to as the elixir of life), keeps inflammation at bay and aids in detoxifying the body. Elevate also raises your metabolisim and helps with weight loss. A big part of heart health is having a healthy weight. Losing fat will keep your heart (and other organs for that matter) functioning longer and stronger for a prolonged, healthy life.

Take care of your heart every day with these two harmony-inducing supplements. Elevate and Inner Harmony are easy to add into your daily lifestyle to keep your heart pumping. Show your heart a lot of love and give it a squeeze with these two heart-loving buddies.

Wellness Wednesday - Just Beet It!

2/10/2016 Osmosis Skincare 2 Comments

Mmmmmm Beets, nature's candy! In honor of Heart Health Month we thought it would be important to include these red, heart shaped miracle workers in our Wellness Wednesday column. We know, beets aren't for everyone... BUT you should know the benefits of these babies and learn how you can incorporate them into your diet to your taste. First, let's look at the highlights:

Now we know the top health benefits of beets, so how do you fit them into your diet?

Beets tend to lose quite a bit of nutrients when they are cooked, the best way to absorb the full benefits is to juice them. If you don't like the taste of beets, juicing is the way to go! Cover up the taste by adding cucumber, apple, and carrot (and get added health benefits). Don't forget to add the beet greens and roots.

Another way to prepare them without losing too much nutrients is by blanching them. Boil 2 cups of water, once your water is boiling, turn off the stove. Then throw in peeled and cut (into quarter size) chunks of beet into the water for roughly 1 1/2 - 2 minutes. Remove from water and immediately place chunks into an ice bath. Sauté the greens with olive oil, garlic, and pepper for an extra health boost, then proceed to gobble!

Beets are a very important veggie to add into your daily wellness routine. For your heart's sake, and your spirit's, we hope you take advantage of nature's sweetest candy!

Niacinamide - What it's All About!

2/05/2016 Osmosis Skincare 0 Comments

Niacinamide is an ingredient you will find in most Osmosis Skincare products due to the multitude of benefits it has for the skin. The difference in niacinamide from other common skincare ingredients is that it is a cell communicating ingredient. This means it alters the way cells perform so we are creating permanent change in the skin instead of a temporary result.

Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, offers multiple benefits for aging skin. It can improve the skin's elasticity, dramatically enhance the barrier function, help with discoloration, and help to revive skin's healthy tone and texture.

Topically applied, it can increase ceramides and free fatty acid levels in the skin to help prevent losing water content and stimulate microcirculation in the dermis which can cause a temporary flushing of the skin. Niacinamide is also known to treat uneven skin tone and acne and the red marks it leaves behind.

The terms niacin, nicinamide, and Vitamin B3 are often used interchangeable to refer to any member of this family of organic compounds, having the same biochemical activity. Niacinamide can be found in many foods including meat, fish, eggs, green vegetables, and cereal grains. When we consume these foods, we enable our bodies to produce niacinamide on its own. It is essential to the body as it increases nutrient delivery to the skin through enhancing circulation. Proven to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, niacinamide assists in the fight against free-radical damage as well as calming inflamed skin.

This ingredient is seen throughout the Osmosis Skincare Line:

       *Niacinamide Powder Active - Professional
       *Powder Blends - Professional
*Our one-of-a-kind, Facial Infusion - Professional
       *Vitamin A Serums
       *Refresh Eye Serum
       *Repair Healing Mask

To receive the benefits of liposomal delivered niacinamide, use a Vitamin A Serum once a day to start, working up to twice daily use, follow with Clear or Clear Plus+ to help drive the ingredient into the skin. And treat your skin to a hydrating chocolate mask, Repair, a couple of times a week. Your skin will thank you!

Trash Talk: When to toss your makeup!

2/04/2016 Osmosis Skincare 2 Comments

Raise your hand if you are a makeup hoarder! It's safe to say that throwing away makeup feels like a mortal sin (maybe an exaggeration?!?), but seeing a half used blush from 1984 go into the trash creates a pang sadness, what if you throw it away and decide one night that you need it to complete your look but that shade has been discontinued for years and you can't find one like it...gasp... THE HORROR!!!  We get it, makeup can be quite an attachment to a lot of women, it holds your personality, expression, and memories. BUT, there does come a time when your makeup needs to be tossed. So let's call this an intervention of sorts, a PSA if you will. All makeup has an expiration date!

Why do you need to toss expired makeup? As makeup ages, it looses its efficacy, and anti-microbial power, which means bacteria could be building up in your products. So when do you toss the goods? Each product you use has a Point After Opening guideline, meaning once you open and start using the product, that is when your "toss it" count down begins.

Powder Products (Pressed Base, Loose Base, Setting Powder etc). - Powders have the longest shelf life due to their lack of water. Keep your powders in a cool dry place to prolong their life span.
Liquid Foundations and Concealers - Liquid products should be tossed within a year.
Blush and Bronzers - Just like your Pressed Base, these can go the distance!
Lip Products - Once 12 months hits it's time to say, "So long!".
Eyeliner and Mascara - Liquid Eyeliner, Pencils, and Gels as well as Mascara needs to be tossed and replaced every 3 months. We can't stress this one enough, using an old eye product could really do some damage to your peepers, so keep em' clean!
Eyeshadows - We like to say 12 months on your shadows, but they could last up to 24 months, just be sure to keep them clean, dry, and to yourself!
If you are not sure if your makeup is ready for the trash or not give it the sniff test. If your makeup smells rancid (kind of like musky dust) toss it. We also like to write the date we open our product on the bottom label as a reminder.
We know it's hard to part with your precious makeup, but it may be time for a clean out, so put on your big girl pants and get to cleaning!

Newness: DIM and Complete

2/03/2016 Osmosis Skincare 1 Comments

Roll out the red carpet, sound the trumpets, make way for the marching band and fire throwers, and watch out for the balloons! That is the welcome our two new supplement all-stars deserve. We are pleased to introduce DIM and Complete, the perfect additions to our Wellness Supplements. We are so excited about these two, so let's jump right into why you need them in your life!

DIM - DIM otherwise known as Diindolylmethane, which is found in cruciferous veggies (like Broccoli) is kind of like the superman of organic compounds. Let's look at the highlights:

     * Promotes Detoxification of Estrogenic toxins (that come from soy, pesticides, food                              preservatives and chlorine)
       * Balances estrogen levels
       * Promotes fat loss and weight maintenance
*Promotes clearer skin and eases hormonal and diet/stress acne
*Some studies show that DIM aids in improving immunity to help reduce risk of cancer
       *Nourishes bone health

Needless to say, DIM is a beneficial supplement for both men and women (we do, after all, both produce estrogen).

Complete - The digestive enzyme butt kicker! Complete is, just that... a complete digestive enzyme that mimics the enzymes our pancreas creates. As we age our pancreas slows down making it more difficult to digest and absorb nutrients from our food. So let's look at the Complete highlights:

       *Increases nutritional absorption
       *Improves mood
*Effectively breaks down food for smooth digestion
*Aids in weight loss (when combined with clean eating and exercise)
       *Eases stress on the pancreas
       *Aids in Acid Reflux relief
*Aids in IBS and Bloating relief
       *Relieves constipation over time

It's safe to say that these two supplements are must haves in your daily wellness plan. Complete should be taken 1-3 times a day with each meal and DIM can be taken 1-2 times a day. You may be asking who should take these supplements? Complete should be taken by everyone, digestive enzymes are an important part of our body's daily functions. DIM is ideal for those with hormonal imbalances, women with PCOS or reproductive organ health concerns, those suffering from hormonal and diet/stress acne, and people who have a high intake of junk food... mmmmmm.... donuts.

We can't wait to hear about your experience with these new supplements, we know you will LOVE them!
